Overview
Applications are now open for the Ireland Fellows Programme 2027/28, a prestigious fully funded scholarship sponsored by the Government of Ireland. The programme provides outstanding professionals from eligible countries with the opportunity to pursue a fully funded master's degree at participating higher education institutions in Ireland.
The programme aims to develop future leaders, strengthen professional skills, and support sustainable development by equipping scholars with the knowledge and expertise needed to make a positive impact in their home countries.
Applications are open from 29 June 2026 and will close on 26 July 2026.
Eligibility
- To be eligible, applicants must:
- - Be a citizen and resident of an eligible country under one of the Ireland Fellows Programme strands.
- - Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- - Have a strong academic record (normally equivalent to a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent).
- - Have at least 2–3 years of relevant work experience, depending on the fellowship strand.
- - Not already hold a master's degree or higher (except where specific fellowship rules apply).
- - Demonstrate leadership potential and a commitment to contributing to the development of their home country.
- - Apply for an eligible master's programme in Ireland beginning in the 2027/28 academic year.
- - Meet the English language requirements of their chosen institution.
- - Not have applied to the Ireland Fellows Programme more than once previously.
Eligible Countries
- The Ireland Fellows Programme is available through different regional fellowship strands.
- Eligible applicants come from selected countries across:
- Africa
- Asia
- Latin America
- Small Island Developing States (SIDS)
- Special fellowship programmes are also available for countries such as:
- Nigeria (Roger Casement Fellowship)
- South Africa (Kader Asmal Fellowship)
- Namibia (Seán MacBride Fellowship)
- Burundi (Archbishop Michael Courtney Fellowship)
- Zambia (Frank Ferguson Fellowship in Engineering)

- Shortlisted applicants who do not already have an accepted English language qualification may be required to take the Duolingo English Test or IELTS, depending on the requirements of their chosen university.
