Overview

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University provides full scholarships to academically talented young people from Sub-Saharan Africa, enabling access to quality graduate education and opportunities for dignified and fulfilling work. The 2026/2027 intake offers 13 scholarships for Master’s programs at Makerere University Main Campus.

Young people living in a refugee host community
Young people from underrepresented ethnic groups in Uganda
Other Ugandan youth
Applied for admission to Makerere University 2026/2027
Completed undergraduate education in an African country
Experiencing financial constraints
Not holding any other scholarship
Not pursuing or completed a Master’s degree
Demonstrated leadership/community service
Age ≤35 (≤40 for refugees
IDPs
or young persons with disabilities)
Valid documentation for refugees
Applied for priority degree programmes
